I live in an older 3 story apartment with a small communal green space outside my window. One of the tenants built a firepit in the communal space despite being asked not to for safety reasons. I’ve generally been unbothered by the pit but recently he’s been having fires late on work nights when I’ve finally had a chance to open up my windows and get some airflow happening after a hot day. My apartment faces south west and has large windows so it heats up inside even if I keep everything shut up. For the sake of sleep and my cats, I try to cool my place down once the sun finally sets. (9:30-10:00pm). The firebug tenant’s apartment is on the other side of the building so it doesn’t get as hot in the sun or full of smoke when he lights a fire but mine does.. the smoke comes directly into my house and several other buildings surrounding the space. But he screams at me and calls me names like fat c*** when I’ve asked in the past that maybe we could limit the fire pit use to earlier in the day. He also refuses to listen to the landlord. He goes out of his way to make me look bad to the other members in the building and last night when he was asked to put the fire out he loaded it up with wet grass and then covered it so it sat smoking away. He yelled at me and told me to mind my business when I finally went out to dump water on it. Even with my windows closed, my place was full of smoke, my animals were sneezing and coughing. I just want to sleep in an apartment that isn’t 28 degrees or full of smoke on a Monday night. What does one do about this??
