Last night I 24F went out to the bars with my friend. My boyfriend Jake 30M who I’ve only been dating for a couple of months was working that night so he wasn’t there. At around 1am I was very drunk and ready to go home, and my friend had already left. At this point, I ran into Jake’s coworker Mark 60M who was there working, not working at the bar but he’s indirectly involved in the bar industry. I had already spoken to him a few times that night and he had actually gotten my friend and I in for free and let us skip the line. Anyways he offered me a drive home since he was done for the night, and said he had just spoken to Jake on the phone, and that Jake wouldn’t be too happy if Mark left me there alone. So I accepted. He took me to MacDonalds and then to my apartment. He was friendly and I didn’t think anything of the situation. Until he drops me off and says to me. “Best you don’t tell Jake I drove you home.” So now what I thought was a friendly and innocent favour to my boyfriend, now feels icky, and I feel responsible. I don’t know what to do. I know I need to tell Jake, but I’m terrified he’ll be upset with me, or that it’ll cause shit at his work. He and Mark have very serious jobs, and I can’t imagine this will go over well if word gets to their superiors. Did I fuck up? Am I the asshole?
