(Movie Spoilers) I got done watching this Tyler Perry movie called Straw which was recommended to me. So, from the first 10-20 mins the main character has to deal with in my opinion the most over the top angry black people. Which I feel like is gonna happen in a Tyler Perry movie, theres gonna be exaggerating and stereotypes. The main character faces a lot of turmoil. Ex: - Getting kicked out of her home from her landlord - Fired by her boss for leaving to check on her sick child - (White Guy/Cop) chasing her down for almost having an accident just to threaten to kill her Besides the cop. Most of smaller scenes she’s getting cuss out or threatened by other black people for little no reason just to help build up her trauma even more. Which really the main point of the movie is mental health and how we should show more empathy. And there’s literally only 2-3 characters that take the time to show that for her. Besides the 2 twists in the movie. I finished the movie and went to tell the person who recommended me to watch it. This is where they asked me “Did it make sense why everyone seemed some type of way” and I proceeded to say “Because they’re black and angry?” Which me personally as black person felt like isn’t over the top to say nor was I saying it to be insensitive the movie just seem really exaggerative at times. I got blocked it is what it is, but my question really is AITA for saying that? I believe the person relate to the movie from a mental health standpoint but I clearly wasn’t knocking the movie for that.
