A friend moved in with me January of 22. She moved to Utah from Montana. The deal was she would find work and pay $500 a month utilities included. - It wasn't until October that she found work and started paying. She payed rent up until may of 2023. At one point missing a month and I had to sell a possession to cover her portion for the month. - Its been over two years since she has payed rent. She finally got a job a few weeks back. But its "only grocery money". - Originally she was to leave in March 2025 and her parents were going to come get her. Then she asked well in advance if it could be in April due to the roads in Montana being iced over still. - Back tracking i got laid off in January and adopted a dog. Her dog and my dog were playing and her dog ended up with a broken leg. (Not an attack just rough housing in the yard and took a bad hit). - I paid what I could on medical bills without putting my house payment in danger. Its about to be 6 months since her dog had surgery. - I talked to her today about her heading home. She told me she had hopes for October but not sure when yet. She hasn't even made $1,000 dollars yet according to her. - Ive spent years working 50 + hour weeks just to make the bills. If she were to pay what she actually owed in back rent it would be about $19,500. - I told her today that she has until the end of September to find her way out or home. She responded with she can't promise that. I responded with she needed to figure it out. - She has helped pick up around the house. She helped take care of my prior dog in his final year. But she has also helped herself to my groceries, rearranged the house and often acted like she owned the place. - Never been more than friends, never wanted to be. But my good graces are empty and honestly paying rent would mean I would have been out of debt and not living paycheck to paycheck wondering when my financial ship will sink. So I ask am I the asshole here?
