Hi Reditt I usually don’t post or react on this account as I am a lurker but I recently went on a trip with my friend and some acquaintances and wanted to get your opinion on if I was in the right for leaving my best friend, a 6 hour drive away from home. (all the people in this story are of age btw) My friend, we'll call her Jane f(18), told me that her and six of her close friends were going on vacation for a week. I f(18) was was not originally supposed to go as someone else was going, but they canceled and they were okay with me filling the spot. I was super excited for a fun time and so I agreed. So for reference Jane is the only person I know going on this trip. We all met at her friends house as he would be driving us all to our air bnb. We get to the Airbnb and I realize that this friend group was very close. I felt a bit like an outsider but I didn't let it bother me as I was a stranger to them too, and so I tried to be more assertive in conversations so we could get to know each other better. A few problems started to come up however. We were in town one night and decided to go clubbing, so we started walking to a nearby establishment. Some people decided to use the washroom at a restaurant mid walk, so I and one of Jane's friends, let's call him John decided to wait around the corner. We told them to meet us back where we branched off when they were done. About 45 minutes go by and they weren't here yet. We decided to go look for them because we were getting worried. We eventually find them as we spotted them down the street. They then all piled into a car that looked to be driving away, so I flagged the car down to see where they were going. They told us that they ordered an uber back to the air bnb and lied, telling us John and I said to go home without them. I asked what happed about wanting to go clubbing and they said they were tired. John and I ended up calling an uber back and cutting the night short. Earlier that night, my friend Jane pulled me aside and whispered in my ear that she was going to hook up with Jacob. I told her "please don't ruin my night" and continued with another conversation I was having. For reference Jane has a huge crush on Ben, Jacobs older brother and has previously referred to Jacob as "like a son to her". They end up having sex and the friend group was in shambles. I was stuck being the mediator between them all as they were mad and shouting at each other. I was super frustrated at this point having to take charge and try to deescalate the situation. We resolved the issue but I was just mentally clocked out of the trip at this point. Long story short I had called my boyfriend and asked him to come get me. I asked Jane if she'd like to come but she said no and begged me to stay. I ended up leaving the one week trip two days early. I heard after that Jane's friends called me a "bad friend" for ruining the trip by leaving early. So reddit, AITA for leaving my best friend a 6 hour drive from home?
