For context I work at a manufacturing plant as a manager. Hourly workers get 120 hours of unpaid emergency time. Once it’s gone you’re terminated. Vacation requests have to be made a minimum of 24 hours in advanced, so no same day vacation approvals can be made. I have or had one individual that had 0 hours left. Last week he had something come up and submitted a vacation request an hour before his shift. He also called me on my emergency only cell phone line. Rules are rules so I denied his request and he was terminated. Now if I wanted to I could’ve played stupid and approved his vacation. That 24 hour rule isn’t enforced at all. I also don’t like the dude. He will leave half way through his shift and use his time. He gets a little tired from being on his phone all shift and uses his emergency time. Last month he didn’t want to clean a water spill ( in his job description) and he used his emergency time. Im getting called names and an asshole for getting him fired because I truly disliked the guy. Anyone else I would bend the rules but not him
