I (27M) have been dating my boyfriend (24M) for about 7 months. We live in Brazil but 2000 miles apart. We first met a few years ago when he tried living in my city, but he had to move back home because of health and money issues. Earlier this year he came back to visit friends, we met again, and this time we started dating. Since then he’s visited me three times, I visited him once, and we’ve talked about marriage already. The problem is he has a stable, well-paying job where he lives. He grew up in poverty and is very attached to financial security. His family lives there too and he helps them a bit. He doesn’t want to leave because moving would mean a worse salary and less stability. I’m a software developer. My current job is in person but I’m looking for remote work so I *could* move. Career-wise I have more flexibility, but I’m an only child and my parents live near me. If I move, I’ll only see them a few times a year. At first we thought I’d move to him for now and maybe later he’d move to me if he found something stable here. But he’s changed his mind and now says he’ll never move. He even wants to buy a house there. So basically he keeps everything he wants (job, family, stability, friends) and I’d be the one giving everything up. I love him and I’m willing to make compromises, but it feels like I’m the only one sacrificing anything. AITA for not wanting to move across the country if he’s not willing to give anything up too?
