So the background to this is that I am a mid 30s woman with red hair and my career is in the service industry. I've never been a chef but I have worked in all matters of front of house in fine dining. I have been with my partner for 12 years. Last spring, my partner's brother asked if we had watched The Residence on Netflix and told us that the chef reminded him of me. When we started watching the show a few months later, my feelings were hurt. This chef's character is 100% screaming and cussing at people. She's mean and has bigger body (I've gained weight in the last few years and I'm insecure about it.) She also has sex with a man immediately after meeting him. It's not in my nature to go around screaming at people and the brother has never seen me raise my voice to anyone. Months later, he brought it up again and I simply said that we enjoyed the show. So two nights ago, partner's sister texts me+partner and asks if we've seen the show. Without any response or prompting "I'm wondering because the chef really reminds me of NormanBeets, what do you think?" My feelings were hurt. 11 years ago the sister told me that my job "sounds like prostitution" and has made some comments about me not finishing college. And I'm kind of just over it. So I texted her back and told her that we enjoyed the show but the repeat comparisons to such an aggressive personality were hurting my feelings. No texts back. My partner was cool about it but he said they didn't mean anything by it and I don't need to be offended. AITA?
