For context. The venue is budweiser stage in Toronto. Tickets were GA lawns. The layout of this particular venue is an ampitheater style that has GA floors up front followed by assigned seats for the next few levels. And GA lawns for the grass area above the seats. Generally it has been my experience over many years here that most people sit and lounge on the lawns on blankets or rental chairs for the openers and stand up for the headliner...(worth noting that when on blankets a couple takes up maybe a 6x6 space and standing a couple takes up 3x3 roughly.) Anyway. We were running late as concert is on a weekday and work etc...so we arrive at end of opener set. Grab our drinks, a concert T and head for the lawn. Walking along the front there's a space between some blankets right up front on the lawn. We stop drink our beers and chat to people around us waiting for the show to start. People around us are at this point mostly on blankets, taking up more "space then if standing". Not a bother to me. Some are standing etc... show starts, sure enough everyone stands up and some dancing etc. A few beside us choose to stay seated on thier blankets as they are front of the lawn (still makes no sense since in front of the lawn is the thoroughfare and people are walking by the entire show so if you want to see without obstruction you need to stand) but to each is own. 99% of the crowd is standing bar like 15 people in our exact location. Which was odd. Anyway after a few songs some guy comes up pokes me on the shoulder and asks me to sit down they can't see. I proceed to point out, probably snarkily, that we are at a concert not an opera, and that these are GA tickets with no assigned or assumed "seating" and that given the fact that there are 16000 other people all standing maybe he should consider that. Especially since the slope of the grass means you always get a decent look since if youre behind you're naturally higher up. He calls me a rude name. I respond in a sarcastic way that angers him further. :) and hold steady. He says they've been there since before the first opener and had a great sitting view of both openers until we showed up and im being a jerk and should sit during the concert. I begged to differ. im there to have fun, sing and dance and enjoy myself. we argue and eventually he jogs on. And we enjoy the show. Ill conceed we came late and got a great standing spot (between the blankets of people taking up more space then us), should i feel bad about that? After a few songs everyone is standing dancing etc...except a few weirdos near us. Even in the assigned seated areas no one is sitting...anyway this guy made it clear that im a huge selfish dickhead and he should be able to sit in the GA area and see because he came early and im in his way. I've never expected to sit a a concert, especially in a GA area, so im confused. Aita? Thanks in advance.
